Field Elementary Chess Classes

The game will be taught in an entertaining way that will help develop students’ cognitive and reflective reasoning skills, enhance their academic performance, as well as foster core values of integrity, leadership, confidence, creativity, patience, discipline, kindness and consideration for others.
We offer both beginning and intermediate chess classes!

Spring/Winter 2020
Beginning Chess B – 10 Weeks
Prerequisites: Beginning Chess A (or Instructor approval) (Please see ‘Past Courses’ section below for previous class description)
Course Description: This class is designed for 1st-5th graders. This is a continuation of Fall semester’s Beginning Chess A. Students will also learn the fundamental check mates and the fundamental principles of opening, middle game, and endgame play. Please note, new students who wish to join this class must already know the rules to chess. Although we will do a quick review of the rules on the first day, it will not be the main focus of this class. Students who do not know the rules to chess yet are welcome to wait until next Fall to join the chess program, or feel free to contact us for additional options.

Intermediate Chess B – 10 Weeks
Prerequisites: Intermediate Chess A (or Instructor approval) (Please see ‘Past Courses’ section below for previous class description)
Course Description: This class is designed for 1st-5th graders, and is suitable for those who already know the rules to chess and are looking to take their game to the next level. We will examine strategy and tactics in the opening, middle game, and endgame in greater depth. This class is a continuation (not a repeat) of Intermediate Chess A from last semester.
January 31, 2020 to May 1, 2020

Pickup & Drop-off:
Before Class Pickup:
We will pick up kindergarten students from their homeroom when school ends and take them to the chess classroom. First graders and up will go directly to the chess class after school, in either room A9 or A10.
After Class Drop-off:
For Kindergarten and 1st grade students who are in afterschool programs after chess class, we will be happy to help take to their respective after school classroom, if they need help.
After Class Parent Pick-up:
For parents and guardians who are picking up their children after chess class: PLEASE, PLEASE pick-up your children on time. Please tell your child to stay with us coaches and not wander off, in the event in the event you are late. We have other classes and other obligations and cannot stay with children for parents who are late in picking up their children. We had one parent who was over 20 minutes late for pickup last semester. We will drop students off at the front office, in the event parents are late in picking up their child.

Course Description: This class is designed for 1st-5th graders. It is a perfect fit for those who are brand new to chess or know a few of the rules to the game, but not all of them. We will cover all of the chess rules in detail. Students will also learn the fundamental check mates and the fundamental principles of opening, middle game, and endgame play.
